The CCU Men's Soccer 2007 Alumni Game took place on Saturday, April 21st. Not only was it an enjoyable experience, but for the first time in the program's history... it was a victorious one!

ALUMS SHOCK CCU IN SATURDAY THRILLER

FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE
Myrtle Beach, SC

On paper it could only be seen as a "no brainer".

A division 1 college side who have been afforded the luxury of training together for 9 months and had recently run MLS sides close in Spring competition against a bunch of ageing former Chants who hadn't seen each other let alone played with each other in years.

Throw into the mix scorching weather conditions and all Alums nursing sore heads after a long night at Broadway on the Friday and surely there was going to be only one winner. Think again.

DOCKING: Sideline Rant and Nightlong Pout

After trailing 1-0 at half time the stars of the past made a remarkable second half recovery to shock the Chants and delight the 150 spectators in attendance.

Led resolutely by South African hard man Dario Grassini the never say die attitude spread through the team like wildfire and with 20 minutes left Brent Lovell pulled the alums level finishing cooly after being placed through on goal by former MLS and current USL Divison 1 star Mumba Chisoni.

With momentum gathering Scott Nelson missed 2 guilt edged chances and Lovell struck the bar with a header from a corner and fans were starting to wonder if it was going to be the alums day.

CHISONI - Posed real threat

With just seconds remaining and the referee on the verge of blowing his whistle Wilmington Hammerheads new signing Luke Ibbetson made ammends for an earlier miss by sliding home from 6 yards to send the alums into raptures.

Many neutral observers claimed the result was justified and one member of the crowd was heard to say "I wonder if Docking is "doing alright then".

Docking claimed that things would have been different if the CCU team had had 2 of their regular players in action (both were injured) and then failed to show at the alums after party.

The alums were positive despite this and the general consensus was that if we had secured the services of players such as Jo Ngwenya, Tyler Hughes, Jordie Hughes, Tommy Rutter, and Jake Kurey we could've won by 10!!!
